Doherty repeats call for government assurances on supertrawler

Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty has called on the Government to reassure people a fishing trawler sailing off the Donegal coast is complying with regulations.
The Margiris is nearly 140 metres long and has the capacity to catch over 9-thousand tonnes of fish.
Concerns are on-going that while it catches an unknown amount of fish, local fishermen are banned from fishing in their own waters.
Jerry Early who heads the Irish Islands Marine Resource Organistion is calling for an outright ban of foreign vessels on the Irish coast.
Deputy Doherty says a two-pronged approach must be applied to tackle the issue………
