Doherty repeats call for government assurances on supertrawler

Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty has called on the Government to reassure people a fishing trawler sailing off the Donegal coast is complying with regulations.

The Margiris is nearly 140 metres long and has the capacity to catch over 9-thousand tonnes of fish.

Jerry Early who heads the Irish Islands Marine Resource Organistion is calling for an outright ban of foreign vessels on the Irish coast.

Deputy Doherty says a two-pronged approach must be applied to tackle the issue.........
