Renee Zellweger says it’s ‘wonderful’ to be playing Bridget Jones again

Renee Zellweger has opened up about returning to her role in the third Bridget Jones film.
The US actress has been filming Bridget Jones’s Baby in the UK, where she was seen wearing a fake baby bump, 14 years on from the release of the first movie Bridget Jones’s Diary. The second film, Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason came out in 2004.
Asked by E! about playing the former hopeless singleton again, as she took part in a charity walk in the US, she said she was “having a good time”.
“It’s really a nice reunion with old friends,” Renee added. “And it’s always wonderful to be back in London and I love this character so it’s been a real treat to get to revisit it again.”
The Hollywood star admitted she hadn’t been sure if Bridget Jones 3 would ever happen, but said: “I’m really glad to be doing it.”
Asked if it was easy to slip into her British accent again, she laughed: “I wouldn’t say that.”
Renee is joined in the cast by Colin Firth, back as Bridget’s love interest Mark Darcy, and by former Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, in a new mysterious role.
The Oscar winner was taking part in the LA County Walk to defeat ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) – known as motor neurone disease in the UK – in honour of her friend and longtime publicist Nanci Ryder, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2014.
She was joined by other celebrity supporters, including Reese Witherspoon and Courteney Cox.
Reese said of the event: “I’m just happy to be here supporting Nanci but also just raising awareness and raising money for ALS.
“There’s so much that’s not known about this disease and watching our friend progress every single week with something different and not know is so horrible.”
Miley Cyrus was also at the event, supporting celebrity pilates instructor Mari Winsor.
