FF TD denies claims of hypocrisy after weekend water charge revelations

An independent councillor in Donegal has accussed Fianna Fail of hypocrisy on water charges by after newly released cabinet papers revealed that the last government had agreed charges of up to €500 per household.

Cllr Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig says Fianna Fail politicians have crowded onto the platform at the water charges protests, and tried to portray themselves as being against water charges.

Now, he says, it has been revealed that not only were they planning to introduce charges of €500 themselves, they were also going to introduce a national water utility - their very own version of Irish Water - which they have so persistently criticised.

Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig says this needs to become a major election issue in the coming months..........

Responding, Fianna Fail TD Charlie Mc Conalogue said the party will not be bound by the decisions or deliberations of the previous administration.

He said during the current campaign, Fianna Fail will be absolutely clear in its commitment..........
