Harkin says new laws regulating Credit Unions should not be enacted

The government is being urged not to enact legislation which would give the Central Bank more regulatory control over credit unions.
Midlands North West MEP Marian Harkin says the provision is grossly unfair, and does not recognise the community basis and ethos of the credit union movement .
She says there are currently 2.89 million members of Credit Unions in the country, with 10,000 new people signing up in the first eight months of this year.
Marian Harkin says now, more than ever, there is a need for political parties to declare their positions on what she termed these discriminatory regulations…….
