Red Door named AA Guest Accomodation of the Year

Red Door
The Red Door Country House in Fahan, Co Donegal has been announced as the AA’s ‘Guest Accommodation of the Year’, an award bestowed to the best AA accredited Bed and Breakfasts, Guesthouses, and Farmhouses in Ireland. The award was presented by Minister of State Michael Ring at a prestigious ceremony in Dublin’s Westbury Hotel on Wednesday evening (16th Sept).
Run by husband and wife duo, Adelle and Shay McCallion and managed by Dominic Barr, the Country House employs a team of 30 staff, all dedicated to delivering culinary excellence and hospitality.
On awarding the top honour, The AA’s Director of Consumer Affairs Conor Faughnan said: “The Red Door is the perfect example of local heritage mixed with fine hospitality. Its Wild Atlantic Way location lends itself to breath-taking views of Lough Swilly, and with antique, quality interior décor, it’s fair to say this is a truly exceptional property. Presenting this award is that little bit extra special, too, as it is the first time Co Donegal has brought home our ‘Guest Accommodation of the Year’ award.”
The Red Door currently holds an AA Rosette for culinary excellence, awarded as a result of a carefully selected menu, locally sourced ingredients and exceptional cooking. The Guesthouse is renowned for its evening dining and alfresco lunch offerings, and also provides a relaxed and cosy vibe for guests wanting to avail of its full breakfast.
On accepting the award, Shay McCallion said: “This is one of the most prestigious awards that we could hope to win as it’s based on real merit by industry experts. It is a tremendous boost for a small team that puts their heart and soul into delivering excellent service delivery. We are truly honoured to accept it.”
The AA’s top award of AA Hotel of the Year went to Powerscourt Resort Hotel & Spa, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow.
The AA uses trained inspectors to personally visit every AA accredited hotel or Bed & Breakfast establishment that is accredited. The assessments of the standards of hospitality, service, cuisine, facilities and staff are the most exacting in the industry. Winners are selected in recognition of excellence in service and hospitality, as well as a clear demonstration of continuous improvement in the preceding 12-18 months.
