FAI Ford Senior Cup Showcases New Trophy

Derry City will have to make the long trek to Turners Cross on Monday evening for an FAI Cup  replay.

Their quarter final at the Brandywell on Friday night finished 1-1 with the goals coming early in each half.

The game was only five minutes old when Derry took the lead through Ryan McBride. The captains superb header from a Patrick McEleney corner was his first goal of the season.

Five minutes into the second half Cork were level, Mark O'Sullivan fired home a rebound from a Gerard Doherty save.

Patrick McEleney nearly won the tie late on for Derry but his effort was saved by the Cork keeper.

In the other games, Dundalk marched into the semi-finals after a 4-0 win over Sligo Rovers at Oriel Park.

Stephen Kenny's side scored four unanswered second-half goals to claim a commanding quarter-final win in difficult conditions.

Goals from Daryl Horgan, Ciaran Kilduff, Ronan Finn and Sean Maguire sealed a comfortable victory for the home side.

Bray Wanderers are also through to the semi-finals after they defeated Killester United 2-0 at the Carlisle Grounds, while Longford beat Sheriff Youth Club 3-1 in the late kick-off.
