Row escalates over naming of Strabane pedestrian bridge

strabane pedestrian bridge

Strabane Councillors have been given 30 days to make their final decision on a name for the pedestrian bridge or they will stand to lose 2.2 million pounds in funding.

Social Development Minister Mervyn Story has also warned the name must not have a political or religious connection.

Sinn Fein Councillors have proposed to name the bridge after the late Sinn Fein member Ivan Barr which it is argued would be a breech of contract.

Local Councillor Patsy Kelly says it's time for Sinn Fein to face facts......

However, Sinn Fein Cllr Karina Carlin says this is party political stunt by Minster Storey, and the bottom line is that the people of Strabane have made their wishes clear...............
