Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty is welcoming the decision by Environment Minister Alan Kelly to examine controversial proposals by Irish Water to decommission Lough Anna as a public water source.

Concerns were raised by residents in the Glenties area that the move would not be in the best interest of the community.

Deputy Doherty made a request in July the Minister intervene in Irish Water's plans to reconfigure the public water supply in the Glenties area, which would mean Lough Anna would close as a public water supply.

He's hopeful the minister's decision to examine the issue will have a positive outcome for residents..............
