Derry great Eddie Davis passes away

One of Derry’s footballing legends, Eddie Davis died on Thursday at the age of 96.
Eddie, who played for several cross channel clubs and then scouted for some of the big sides in England and Scotland passed away peacefully at his home in Argylle Street.
In the 1930’s Eddie headed for England after a spell with Cork to play for Wolves and then Southend United.
When World War 2 broke out he returned to his home club Derry City before stepping away from the playing game at 32.
He then became a successful scout for the likes of Glasgow Celtic, Middlesborough, Bradford City and Manchester United, where his was asked to find players after the Munich tragedy.
Eddie was the father of Sean Davis, well known football coach and former professional, and Eamon who is PRO of Letterkenny Golf Club.
