Cancer campaign groups issue joint statement following Dublin meeting

A joint statement has been issued by Donegal’s two biggest cancer campaign groups following yesterday’s meeting in Dubin.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Leo Varadkar and Junior Minister Joe Mc Hugh have also issued a joint statement pledging their support to the process.
Cooperating for Cancer Care North West and Donegal Action for Cancer Care acknoweledge that while progress has been made in the past six months, there is still much work to do.
A firm commitment was given from Minister Varadkar and the Saolta Group to strengthen systematic breast cancer services in LGH in a manner that will be sustainable into the future.
All attending the meeting recognised that Letterkenny breast services require
additional supports and were in agreement regarding the quality of services provided by the breast team within the hospital.
A further meeting is envisaged before the end of the year.
Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, Health Minister Leo Varadkar said “as I outlined on Highland Radio last month when I was in Donegal, we are absolutely committed to ensuring that the Breast Care Unit at Letterkenny Hospital is strengthened and that it continues to provide the best possible care for patients into the future.
