A Donegal Councillor says the Septic Tank Inspection Process introduced by the government in 2013 is not working, because the government is concentrating on it as a revenue source rather than an environmental initiative.
At the last meeting of Donegal County Council, Cllr Paul Canning raised a number of questions about the initiative. He was told that approximately 170 tanks have been inspected in the county, around 30% of which have not met EPA standards.
A grant scheme is available, but so far, only six applications have been approved in the county.
Cllr Canning says the grant was supposed to promote self regulation, but it's too restrictive for that to work.............
