A security alert is currently underway on the Skeoge Road in Derry following reports of an explosion overnight.
The bomb squad have been tasked to the scene.
There were reports of a loud bang at about 11.45pm last night.
Officers attended the area and it appeared something inside a bin had exploded.
The road is closed between the Glengalliagh roundabout and the Buncrana Road.
Members of the public should avoid the area.
