PARC welcome driver register plan ahead of meeting with Transport Minister

A new driver register is being proposed to link penalty points to your driver licence for the first time.
The new central register would be accessible to the Court Service, the Gardai and the Road Safety Authority – which gives out penalty points – to get rid of any loopholes for drivers who commit offences.
The Donegal based Road Safety Organisation PARC has been highlighting such loopholes for some time is welcoming the news, and also say it should help end the scenario of disqualified drivers not handing in their licences to have the numbers recorded.
PARC founder Susan Grey says the court service has the power under law to record licence numbers, but it isn’t being universally applied…….
