A Donegal councillor says Minister Joe Mc Hugh should address the controversy over Minister Alan Kelly’s awarding of grants to towns in his own constituency last year, even though Letterkenny was deemed to be more qualified for funding.
Minister Kelly awarded the grants to Clonmel and Thurles last year while he was Transport Minister. The grants were part of the Active Travel Town Scheme designed to encourage more people to get out walking or cycling, rather than using their cars.
Out of a total fund of €6.5m, Alan Kelly awarded €1.5m to projects in his home county.

Councillor Mick Quinn, who moved the motion, says the current government’s promises of change now ring hollow………..
