Police treating Waterside assault as a ‘sectarian hate crime’

PSNI hi resPolice are treating an assault on a young man in the Dungiven Road area of the Waterside as a sectarian hate crime.
At about 12.30am on Monday a man in his 20 was walking home when he was chased by a group of youths who shouted sectarian abuse and threw bottles and stones at him.
The group followed him to a house at Meehan’s Terrace, and after he had gone inside, a stone was thrown and broke a bedroom window.
The youth was unhurt.
A three year old child was sleeping in the room at the time of the incident but luckily was not injured.
Police are keen to hear from witnesses who were in vicinity of Dungiven Road, Glendermott Road, Bentley Terrace or Meehan Terrace at approximately 12.30pm to 1am and who can help identify those involved in this incident.
