Dundalk win for young Donegal jockey

Horse RacingLetterkenny teenager Oisin Orr celebrated a significant milestone in the career of every young jockey at Dundalk this afternoon.

The 17-year-old, who has moved to Enfield, County Meath to pursue his career as a jockey, rode his third winner, Balmont Blast for trainer and owner Eddie Lynam, when successful in the Crowne Plaza Race And Stay Apprentice Handicap.
Based in Lynam’s yard outside Dunshaughlin in County Meath, the victory means that Orr’s claim is reduced from ten pounds to seven.
Orr settled Balmont Blast in behind the leaders before letting the horse take control of the race with two furlongs left to go. It was straightforward from then for Orr and the 5-1 chance, who were four and a half lengths in front of The Butche’s Filly in second.
