Finn Harps have been displaced by Wexford Youths as the leaders of the SSE Airtiricty League Division One after slumping to a third defeat on the trot.
Veteran Philip Hughes was the hero for Shels as he bagged a hat-trick in a 3-2 win at Tolka Park.
Harps took the lead after just ten minutes throughDamien McNulty and Shels then had striker Mark Sandford sent off as he clashed with advancing Harps goalkeeper Ciaran Gallagher.
But the home side equalised on 41 minutes as Hughes converted the first of two penalties.
Harps made it 2-1 in the first minute of the second half thanks to a fine Tony McNamee strike.
But Shels drew level again on 55 minutes. Hughes went down in the box and Keith Cowan was deemed to be the culprit and saw red.
Hughes scored the penalty and three minutes bagged what proved to be the winner.
Both sides had further chances but ultimately Shels deserved their win.
