Penalty heartbreak for Harps as Longford win cup tie in Ballybofey

FAI Ford Senior Cup Showcases New Trophy
Finn Harps bowed out of the FAI Senior Cup on Monday night losing 4-3 on penalties to Longford Town at Finn Park.
In difficult conditions the tie finished 0-0 after normal and extra time.
The dreaded spot kicks were required to separate the sides and it was the visitors who held their nerve to progress.
Gareth Harkin had his penalty saved while Josh Mailey hit the post with his effort.
Ciaran Gallagher did save Gorman’s strike but it was Martin Deady who scored the game deciding penalty to send Longford through.
Harps will be gutted with the outcome as Ollie Horgan’s players were the better team throughout.
The woodwork on three ocassions kept Longford in the game.
It’s back to league action for Harps on Friday, the First Division leaders will look to get back to winning ways at Athlone Town.
