Mac Lochlainn says holding the Presidential Candidate Age Referendum was a mistake

All 43 constituencies said no to the proposal.

Donegal voted broadly in line with the rest of the country, with both constituencies coming in at 28% Yes and 72% No.

Meanwhile, Donegal North East Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn says putting the presidential age referendum to the people was a mistake, with no significant debate on the issue, and very little public interest.

He says a far more pressing issue is the proposal to give Irish citizens abroad a vote in presidential elections, and the numbers who cam home to vote in the Marriage Equality referendum are a testament to the interest that's there..............
