Mac Lochlainn says holding the Presidential Candidate Age Referendum was a mistake

Padraig MacLochlainn
As expected, the country has voted against lowering the age of Presidential candidates.
All 43 constituencies said no to the proposal.
Donegal voted broadly in line with the rest of the country, with both constituencies coming in at 28% Yes and 72% No.
Meanwhile, Donegal North East Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn says putting the presidential age referendum to the people was a mistake, with no significant debate on the issue, and very little public interest.
He says a far more pressing issue is the proposal to give Irish citizens abroad a vote in presidential elections, and the numbers who cam home to vote in the Marriage Equality referendum are a testament to the interest that’s there…………..
