A Derry and Strabane District Councillor is due in court this week charged with Benefit Fraud.
Sinn Fein Cllr Collie Kelly is accused of making a false representation in order to obtain Jobseekers Allowance, and today’s Derry News reports he will appear in court later this week to answer five charges.
It’s claimed he failed to declare he was working as a Sinn Fein councillor, and that he failed to declare changes in his circumstances which would affect his entitlement to benefits.
Cllr Kelly was coopted onto Derry City Council, and then elected in his own right in 2011. He has since been elected onto the new Derry and Strabane District Council.
