Harps welcome Waterford Utd to Finn Park

Finn Harps

Basement club Waterford United are the visitors to Finn Park on Friday night, as Finn Harps aim to increase their unbeaten league start to the season to ten games.
Harps suffered a set-back last Friday night against Cabinteely as John McKeown’s goal six minutes into stoppage time denied them victory and cut the gap at the top between Harps and Wexford to three points. It also meant that Harps had conceded in a game for just the second time in this season’s league campaign.
Waterford have had a miserable start to the season, Manager Ollie Horgan insists they will be difficult opponents for his charges on Friday.
“We were fortunate to beat Waterford 8 weeks ago,” said Horgan of his sides victory at the RSC in March.
“They pinned us back for long periods including when they were down to ten men. Their league position is false in what they can achieve with the players that they have. Jack Doherty and Brian Nolan are two of the best players in the league along with the likes of Anthony McAlavey and Dylan Mernagh to mention a few that Tommy Griffin can pick from.”
On the team front, Packie Mailey remains sidelined while Garbhan Friel is unavailable for Harps. Otherwise, Horgan will have a full squad to choose from.
Having gone on a run that had seen them win just twice in twenty meetings with Waterford, Harps have won each of the last three meetings between the two sides without conceding. The earlier season meeting between the two teams at the RSC finished in 2-0 victory for Harps with late goals in each half courtesy of Damien McNulty and Gareth Harkin proving the difference.
