Shay Given has got his birthday present early.
The Lifford native was in goals for Aston Villa in their FAI Cup semi-final 2-1 win over Liverpool yesterday.
Today he is celebrating his 39th birthday.
Back in 1998, Given played in goals in a Cup final but Newcastle lost 2-0 to Arsenal. The following year they were back – but he was replaced by Steve Harper as they fell to Manchester United.
Manchester City lifted the trophy in 2011 and Given got a medal even though he wasn’t playing.
After a mixed spell at Villa, he’s now back enjoying the action for the cup games, with Brad Guzan preferred in Premier League games.
Given will be hoping he gets the nod again for the next cup game!
Villa will meet Arsenal in the final.
