Police are appealing for information following disorder in the Leafair Gardens and Glencaw Park areas of Derry on yesterday evening.
Two teenage boys have been arrested in relation to the incident.
At approximately 10.30pm, police received reports that between 30 and 40 youths were pouring petrol on the street and setting it on fire, causing a barricade.
Police attended the incident and came under fire from the youths throwing missiles such as bricks and bottles at police vehicles.
Officers on foot made the two arrests.
Two males aged 14 and 16 were arrested last night on suspicion of riotous behaviour.
Chief Inspector Tony Callaghan has said: “Residents in this area have suffered again due to the reckless actions of these youths.”
He is reiterating the message to youths involved in this kind of activity, that they run the risk of being arrested and getting a criminal record which could stay with them for a long time.
He has also highlighted that parents need to know where their children are, who they are with and what they are doing.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101.
The two youths have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
