Donegal County Council one of three authorities to implement absenteeism monitoring systems

Some local authorities are being criticised for not monitoring employee sick leave.
A report by the Department of the Environment, found that almost one-in-four councils have failed to put in place systems to deal with absenteeism.
Donegal County Council is one of only three in the country to have implemented all 16 ‘performances indicators’ suggested to deal with the issue. The others are Kerry and Fingal. Other authorities have implemented just some of the recommendations.
The Irish Independent reports that that workers in the public sector are taking twice as many sick days as private sector workers.
The study also shows that public sector workers take an average of 11 sick days a year.
