Derg Line works were authorised – Council

Donegal County Council has confirmed that works on the Derg Line near Barnesmore Gap were authorised, and carried out with the knowledge of the local authority.
Concern was expressed by residents at the weekend about the works, with fears that they might compromise the nearby historic railway bridge at Barnesmore Gap. Those fears were compounded when, residents claim, a telephone number on a sign went unanswered. This led to questions about whether or not the work was sanctioned, particularly after it emerged the council was not involved.
However, a council spokesperson has confirmed the works were carried out by Airtricity, and the site was inspected by a local engineer.
