English gets inside European qualifying time

Donegal athlete Mark English stepped up his preparations ahead of the European Indoor Championships next month in Prague by finishing in sixth place in the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix 800 metres in Birmingham.
His time of 1 minute 47.17 was inside the 800m qualifying standard (1.48.50) for Prague.
English will return to Athlone tomorrow to contest the GloHealth national 800m indoor final on Sunday.
Meanwhile, at the National Indoor Championships in Athlone, Maria McCambridge won the Women’s 3,000 metres in 9 minutes 26.77
Brendan Boyce of Letterkenny AC was second in the 5k walk.
