Residents in Derry to remain out of homes overnight as security alert continues

A bomb alert that has caused a number of homes in a Derry housing estate to be evacuated is likely to continue overnight.

Police said they received a number of phone calls to say a bomb had been left in a laneway at the entrance to the Currynierin estate.

Ch Insp Tony Callaghan said they were treating the claims “with utmost seriousness”.

Army bomb disposal experts are at the scene.
