Sinn Fein – Pearse Doherty

NAME: Pearse Doherty TD
PARTY: Sinn Féin
AGE: 38
FROM: Gaoth Dobhair
Political background (in one or two paragraphs please):
I am Sinn Féin’s Finance Spokesperson as well as a sitting TD for the Constituency of Donegal South West. I’ve previously served as a member of Donegal County Council from 2004 to 2007, and became the party’s first Senator following my election onto the Agricultural Panel in 2007.
I’ve served as a member of Sinn Féin’s Ard Comhairle, and was a founding member of Ógra Shinn Féin, having formally served on its National Executive between the years 1998 and 2001.
Top three priorities if you are elected:
Sinn Féin pledges to scrap the Local Property Tax and water charges and bring about a fair recovery for all citizens.
We will tackle the chaos in health by investing in Donegal’s hospitals, recruit additional frontline health workers including nurses, midwifes and consultants and work hard to reduce current waiting times.
Our party will end the cycle of decline in rural Donegal through greater investment in both public services and infrastructure, and help create jobs and employment opportunities.
