Mystery as ‘jets’ fly in formation across Donegal’s skies

CaptureA number of people have contacted Highland Radio News reporting a sighting of what appeared to be jets in formation crossing the Donegal skies.
Three eye witnesses claim to have seen one large military plane being escorted by two smaller fighter jets while many others on social media says they both saw and heard the (distinctive) sound of military jets.
The planes crossed the Donegal skies shortly after 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon prompting much speculation.

Earlier the BBC reported:

Russian military planes flying near UK airspace caused “disruption to civil aviation” on Wednesday, the Foreign Office has said.

It said the two Russian planes did not enter UK airspace, but the manoeuvres were “part of an increasing pattern of out-of-area operations” by Russia.
The planes were “escorted” by RAF jets “throughout the time they were in the UK area of interest”, officials added. (via )

It is not clear if the BBC story and the Donegal sightings are connected.
