McIlroy named as RTÉ Sport Person of the Year

 
PGA Championship golf tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, USARory McIlroy has been named RTÉ Sport Person of the Year for the second time.
It was a great year for the golf world number one, his victories included winning two Majors, the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool and the PGA Championship at Valhalla.
He also played a leading role in Europe’s Ryder Cup victory.
Last week he was runner-up in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year competition.
The Team of the Year, chosen by public vote, was the All-Ireland winning Cork Ladies Football team.
Irish rugby coach Joe Schmidt was named the winner of the RTÉ Sport Manager of the Year.
As well as acknowledging this year’s sporting achievements, the RTÉ Sport Awards also paid tribute to one of Ireland’s greatest sporting legends.
Irish rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll was honoured with the RTÉ/Irish Sports Council Hall of Fame Award.
