LRC should be asked to mediate in Junior Cert dispute – Mc Conalogue

As secondary teachers prepare to strike tomorrow, Donegal Deputy Charlie Mc Conalogue says the dispute should be referred to the Labour Relations Commission.

Plans to reform the Junior Cert are at the centre of the row, and Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan says she's the only one who has moved position significantly - she says the ball is now in the unions' court.

A second strike is being planned for January.

Deputy Mc Conalogue, the Fianna Fail Education Spokesoperson says Minister O'Sullivan has shown more movement than her predecessor Ruari Quinn, but he believes the government's handling of the issue is at the heart of the current impasse.............
