Having made 19 appearances last season, this will be Harkin’s third season with Harps having also played 24 times for the club during the 2011 season. In his 43 games to date, he has scored 3 goals.
The Letterkenny native is the seventh player signed by manager Ollie Horgan for next season and Gareth feels that Harps fans can look forward to watching a competitive team at Finn Park next year.
“I think people know that there was interest from other clubs but I feel there is forward momentum at the club and I see no reason why we can’t push on next season. We put in a big effort last year and if we can add to our attacking threat I think we can be optimistic about our chances of mounting a challenge,” he said.
Ollie Horgan said: “I am glad Gareth has decided to commit to us for another year because in the second half of last season he showed he can be a key player for us. He has always been blessed with a lot of natural ability and is the type of player who can get on the ball and make things happen. The close season can be a very uncertain time for everyone but I am happy with the way we are progressing. We are working as hard as we can and hopefully we will be adding more signings sooner rather than later.“
