Hundreds of protesters attend council meeting calling for scrapping of water charges

Water protestsAnti water charges protesters have packed out a meeting of Councillors in Lifford calling on the local authority to vote on a motion against water charges.
Councillors have convened for a special meeting to discuss water charges.
It is understood Councillor Frank McBrearty Junior is to put forward an emergency motion calling on the government to scrap water charges and to prevent the privatisation of Irish Water.
