Public detain man during attempted armed robbery of Derry shop

DerryDetectives in Derry have arrested two men following the report of an attempted robbery at a shop in the Northland Avenue area last evening (Friday).
One of the men was detained by members of the public during the incident.
Police received a report that just before 9pm a man armed with a knife had entered the shop and demanded money.
No money was handed over and the suspect was restrained by members of the public and arrested on the arrival of police at the scene.
A second man believed to have been involved in the incident was arrested a short time later. The men, both aged 19, remain in custody and are helping with police enquiries.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact police in Strand Road (from the North) on 101.
