Foreign Affairs Minister hoping to build on business links during Boston visit

Charlie Flanagan
The Minister for Foreign Affairs is concluding his first official trip to the US with a series of meetings in Boston.
Charlie Flanagan will meet the Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick and the President of the State Senate, Therese Murray, among others.
Minister Flanagan’s visit to Boston comes just weeks after two high profile visits to the North West by senior political figures in Massachusetts.
Just last week, Boston’s mayor Marty Walsh was in Letterkenny and Derry as part of his Irish visit, while three weeks ago, State Senate President Therese Murray visited Donegal and Derry for a series of engagements, the centrepiece of which was her acceptance of the Tipp O’Neill Disaspora Award in Buncrana.
Those visits saw educational and business links between the two regions cemented further, and MInister Charlie Flanagan will be hoping to build on that momentum.
Speaking before leaving for the US, he said he believes Boston and Massachusetts can be a gateway to the US economy for Irish companies, across a range of different sectors.
