EastEnders was the big winner at the TV Choice Awards picking up a string of gongs with wins for stars Danny Dyer and Lindsey Coulson.

The pair, who play Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter and Carol Jackson in the BBC show, were named Best Soap Actor and Actress respectively.

Dyer saw off competition from fellow EastEnder Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale, while Coulson’s performance as cancer patient Carol beat Coronation Street pair Julie Hesmondhalgh and Michelle Keegan amongst others to the trophy.

The long-running show, which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year, was named Best Soap and given an honorary award for its three decades on the screen.
