The man has died after falling into the sea at Fanad Lighthouse yesterday has been named locally as John Mc Court from Antrim. He was 58.
He received CPR at the scene, and was then airlifted to Letterkenny General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Rescue services were initially unable to reach the man due to strong gale winds.
It is understood that the man was one of two people taking photographs of the area when he lost his footing and fell into the water.
Two lifeboats from the Lough Swilly RNLI based at Buncrana were dispatched to the scene as well as the Rescue 118 helicopter which is based in Sligo.
