Mark English has won a bronze medal for Ireland at the European Athletics Championships.
The 21-year-old medical student from Letterkenny produced a strong finish to the men’s 800 metre final on a wet and windy night in Zurich.
After he only qualified for the final as a fastest loser, English stormed through the pack in the closing 200 metres to finish in a time of one minute and 45.03 seconds, which equalled his season’s best time and left him 9-tenths of a second behind gold medal winner Adam Kszczot, who led home a Polish 1-2.
