Derry man in court after stolen vehicle crashes into police cars

Derry Court hi resA 25-year-old man has been charged with a number of motoring offences following a collision involving police vehicles and a suspected stolen car near Maghera early this morning (Friday July 25).

The accused, who is from Derry, faces 10 charges, including aggravated vehicle taking, burglary, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through alcohol or drugs and other motoring offences.

He appeared at Derry Magistrates’ Court earlier today

The charges relate to a Nissan Juke car which was reported to have been stolen in the Manse area of Derry just before midnight last night and then driven towards the Glenshane Road.

Half an hour later, police saw and followed the vehicle which later collided with the police cars.

A man ran from the scene, but was arrested a short time later.

The four police officers suffered minor injuries.
