One and a half billion to watch Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony

Commonwealth GamesThe Commonwealth Games begins tonight with the opening ceremony in Glasgow.

Organisers claim a global television audience of one-and-a-half-billion people will watch tonight's ceremony at Celtic Park.

The actual competition action starts there tomorrow, and runs until a week on Sunday.

Seven North West athletes are on the Northern Ireland team.

Paralympic star Jason Smyth from Derry goes in the 100m 200m and  4x100m relay.

Letterkenny’s Danny Mooney tackles the 800m and 1500m while Finn Valley’s Dempsey McGuigan throws in the Hammer.

Derry's Aileen Reid will compete in the Triathlon, Strabane's Marcus Christy  goes in Cycling's 4000m individual pursuit and the road time trial.

There's two boxers from Derry heading for ring action, Sean Mc Glinchey and Conor Coyle while Stephen Friel is on the boxing coaching panel.
