Council for the West wants minister to oversee implementation of CEDRA


There is speculation that one Junior Minister will be given specific responsibility for rural development, an indication being welcomed by the Council for the West.

It's issued a statement calling on the Government to implement, as a matter of extreme urgency, the recommendations made by a commission established to promote economic development in rural areas.

The report by the Commission for the Economic Development of Rural Areas which was chaired by Pat Spillane, features a 38-point strategy to guide medium-term economic development in rural areas for the next 10 years.
