Tourism expert questions fairness of regional airport subsidies

The Director of the National Centre for Tourism Policy Studies says state subsidies for regional airports should be reassessed, arguing that such subsidies may give the regional airports an unfair advantage, while working against balanced regional development.
Professor Jim Deegan makes the comment in a paper prepared for the Shannon Airport Marketting Consultative Committee.
Speaking to Highland Radio News today, Professor Deegan, who is based at the University of Limerick, says while Donegal Airport may well have a valid argument for subsidies because of the lack of a rail network and the condition of the county’s roads, there may be better and fairer ways to spend the money…………..
