Doherty says extra nominees to banking inquiry should step down


Sinn Féin's Finance spokesperson says the only way to progress the banking inquiry is for the two senators appointed to the committee by the government to step down.

It comes as Independent TD Stephen Donnelly announced over the weekend that he is to resign from the committee after the coalition added two nominees to the inquiry- ensuring it had a government majority.

The Taoiseach and the Tánaiste discussed the Oireachtas banking inquiry yesterday - following the resignation of Deputy Donnelly and a government spokesperson confirmed that no whips will be imposed on party members serving on the inquiry.

However, Deputy Doherty says that's not enough..........
