A 45 year old man has died in a diving accident in Donegal.
The alarm was raised at around ten to eight this morning, when a group of divers, about four miles North of Malin Head, told the coastguard that one of their crew had got into difficulty.
The men – who are all of Polish origin but living in Ireland – were searching a wreak about 43 metres deep.
The Coastguard – along with Lough Swilly RNLI – attended the scene and the 45 year old man was airlifted to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry were he was pronounced dead.
It’s the second diving tragedy to occur in less than 24 hours.
In Cork, a man in his 40s died last night after he got into difficulty while diving with a group near Roaches Point.
Members of the Crosshaven RNLI administered first aid at the scene – but he was unresponsive – and was taken to Cork University hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Post mortem examinations will now be carried out on both men – who were said to be experienced divers.
