Gardai to investigate claims of assault during Dublin school Annagry trip

It's been confirmed that a complaint has now been made to gardai after children from a Dublin school were allegedly handcuffed and beaten by fellow pupils on a school trip to the West Donegal gaeltacht last month .

The children from Griffeen Valley Educate Together School in Dublin were on a five day visit to Annagry when the alleged incidents took place.

The Irish Independent today quotes one parent as claiming that teachers slept in one house during the trip, while the children were housed in a nearby property.

Several parents staged a sit-in at the school in Lucan after the trip to force the board of management to hold an emergency meeting on the matter.

Local Fine Gael TD Derek Keating has said he's written to the Education Minister on the parents' behalf, and will be raising the issue in the Dail this week.

Deputy Keating and school principal Thomas O'Dulaing recently become involved in a political roaw after Mr O'Dulaing, a high profile member of the United Left Alliance crisiticed a leaflet distributed by Deputy Keating welcoming the announcement of a new extension for the school.
