Deputy McHugh – Peoples choice of whether to scrap or maintain the Seanad

joe mc hughDonegal North East Deputy Joe Mc Hugh has told the Dail that he believes it’s too late to talk of reforming the Seanad, and it’s time to give the people the choice of whether to scrap or maintain it.
In 2002, he was elected to the Seanad, and recalled that on the first day, reform was identified as the main priority. However, it didn’t happen.
Deputy Mc Hugh said he was elected as a representative on the Administrative Panel, but in truth, never filled that role.
He said the perception is the Seanad is a grooming ground for prospective TDs, and that’s exactly what it became for him…………
