We’re just days away from the highlight of the motorsport calendar in the North West – the 2013 Donegal International Rally.
The excitement has been building over the last few months but more so in the course of the last week with 360 crew members conducting their recce for the rally.
This Friday the 21st June at 11am the cars will begin to leave the start ramp from An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny, with a huge entry of over 180 cars starting out on one the biggest motorsport adventures in Europe, tackling three days of action spread out across the county of Donegal.
The Fermanagh Donegal partnership of Garry Jennings and Neil Doherty will be first on the road seeded at number 1 following their victory last year.
Darragh O’Riordan, Darren Gass, Derek Mc Garrity and Declan Boyle will all be out to take a second win out of their hands.
Donegal crew Declan and Brian Boyle will be taking on the challenge for the first time in WRC machinery. Having won the National side of the rally in an Escort last year the Lettermacaward men have since stepped up to a Subaru s12b which has already brought them success with a number of wins under their belt this year.
Speaking with Oisin Kelly, Declan says winning Donegal would be the ultimate prize…
Manus Kelly and Donal Barrett missed out on victory in the National Rally last year. Their escort was beaten by just 4.8 seconds on the last day.
Given the talent that is in the rally this year, including Craig Breen, Manus knows that victory in the National will be tough to achieve…
