Take caution to secure your house while on holiday, says helpline

The Crime Victims Helpline is urging people to remain extra cautious regarding security around their homes as we enter the holiday season.
The group says people can become more relaxed about their home security during the bright and hot weather periods.
The organisation says unoccupied houses are always more vulnerable to burglaries.
Maeve Ryan, co-ordinator of the Crime Victims Helpline says there are some very basic steps people can take.
“Don’t leave money, cash, and valuables available in your house when you’re going away and make sure it’s secure. We’re also saying when you are on holiday there is always the temptation to not be as careful with your property, bag or belongings. When you’re away you are often easily identifiable as a target by would be thieves, be aware of that”.
