Senior Gardaí are meeting in Co. Kerry this morning following the discovery of the bodies of a mother and daughter at a house in Killorglan yesterday.
The 27-year-old woman and her 8 -year-old daughter are believed to be from Lithuania. They were found at their home in Langford Downs at around 8:30 in the evening.
It is understood the pair had been living in Ireland for around 5 years.
Reporter with Radio Kerry Aisling O'Brien says they both suffered violent deaths.
"The state pathologists office has been notified, and the Garda crime scene investigation unit are en-route form Dublin" she said.
"Senior gardai are meeting in Killarney this morning about this investigation and of course it'll obviously depend on the result of the post mortem's before they can decide whether or not to open a murder investigation".
"That's pretty likely at the moment, judging on what's being said locally here" she added.
