Donegal Deputy leads committee in government talks on suicide prevention

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will meet with Minister of State at the Department of Health Kathleen Lynch to hear the range of initiatives which are in place to reduce the incidents of suicide nationally.
Ireland has one of the highest rates of suicide in young males in the European Union .
The committee aims to explore the national services in place for suicide prevention and to develop what further actions are necessary to reduce the rate of suicide, particularly among young men.
The Chairman of the Committee Sinn Fein Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn says, the meeting comes on foot of a public petition which called for a national campaign on suicide prevention:
